The Department of Health and Human Services from the US is showing efforts to fight against the rapidly increasing autism epidemic through massive research taking the help of artificial intelligence and other techniques. On April 10, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. took the reports about the autism situation in the country and set the coming September deadline to identify the root cause.

In the cabinet meeting, he has claimed that till September, they’ll know the reason of autism and will take measures to deal with the situation

By September, we will know what has caused the autism epidemic, and we will be able to eliminate those exposures.

Although experts are not confident about the statement, saying it’s untrue or impossible to get the results so fast. Some are commenting that RFK wants to use the powerful techniques for the medical research, such as artificial intelligence, that enhance the research speed and efficiency many times.

Kennedy sets a September Deadline to Identify Autism Epidemic Cause

The United States is claiming to deal with the increasing problem of the autism rate in the country, and the HHS secretary has set the deadline of September to know the answer to the tricky question that has eluded researchers and medical scientists for decades.

Since 2000, autism has been a critical problem for the US, drawing strong public concerns. According to the data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2000, the autism rate in the country was 0.66, but by 2018, the percentage increased to 2.27. The record of 2020 shows that 1 of the 36 children aged 1 to 8 years has autism.

Therefore, in President Trump’s cabinet, Kennedy has discussed the efforts to deal with the situation, and the only way is strong research to know the main reason. Kennedy says,

At your direction, we are going to know by September. We’ve launched a massive testing and research effort that’s going to involve hundreds of scientists from around the world. By September, we will know what has caused the autism epidemic, and we’ll be able to eliminate those exposures.

With no plans or methods discussed in detail, Kristyn Roth, the chief marketing officer for advocacy group the Autism Society of America, seems confused about getting the right answer at this deadline. He says,

Autism is a lifelong developmental condition that affects people in many different ways.

What Do Scientists Say about Autism

Researchers say that the latest research methods are helping them to get the right output, but still, the cause of autism is still unknown. Increases in awareness, broader views of autism, and better screening and processing tools are helping to deal with the increasing rate, but there is something causing the rapid growth of such cases.

Although knowing the core reason behind autism is critical and important, till now, no one has the exact information. The genetic, parental habits, pesticides, and parental exposure to air pollution are some points playing a role in the situation.

Autism and the Vaccination Link

President Trump and Kennedy are always in the news because of the claims that do not have any evidence, and their recent concern about autism is raising multiple questions. According to them, there is a connection between the vaccinations and autism; therefore, the US is facing these cases. Although the medical experts do not agree with them.

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences claims that vaccination is not the reason behind the rapid growth of autism cases.

No link has been found between autism and vaccines, including those containing thimerosal, a mercury-based compound.

Now, the US is waiting for September to know if Kennedy is able to have the right research output for the reason behind autism and its growing rate.
