We all love the way our Siri replies to us when we call it but the users were unaware that Siri was spying on us. Maybe you have not considered it a problem, but California resident Fumiko Lopez has filed a case against the company, and I think she has done right.

In 2021, the lawsuit was filed in California federal court, where Lopez claimed that Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri, could be activated without the user’s permission and record the conversation, voices, and other information. This information is then sold to the third parties that use it for advertisement and for other business dealings.

During the case hearing, the third parties have admitted that they get the recordings, such as the drug dealers getting the conversation between the doctor and the patient. Similarly, other intimate and sensitive information is being sent to the respective departments, and this is unethical.

About Apple Settlement Siri Lawsuit

On March 17, 2021, the Lopez vs. Apple case was filed, where the users claim that Apple is getting their recorded conversation when they unintentionally activate Siri. This is the reason why the users get the ads of the products and services they need or have recently talked about.

Apple has denied the allegation, and this has made the case so long that it took years for the final decision. The company says,

Siri has been engineered to protect user privacy from the beginning

Yesterday, Apple agreed to the settlement and is ready to pay the $95 million settlement over the Siri lawsuit.
