- US FDA Suspends Milk Quality Tests
The US Food and Drug Administration has cancelled the quality assurance test on the raw milk and other dairy products. According to the resources, the reason behind this step is the Trump layoff and the limited capacity of the food safety and nutrition division.
This is another food disruption in the nation’s safety program related to food. Before this, the Trump administration had terminated 20,000 employees from the Department of Health and Human Services, including the FDA.
The administration is trying to shrink the federal workforce; therefore, it is taking steps to minimize all expenditures. Moreover, the FDA has also terminated the existing development programs working for the effective testing for bird flu in the milk and testing for the presence of pathogens like the parasite Cyclospora in the food.

The Trump administration is working on making the expenses as low as they can, so the FDA has suspended the milk quality assurance program working under it. The major reason behind this step is the staff cuts and the FDA’s Moffett Center lab closure.
The move is not welcomed by the public and is weakening the food safety measures. The program was considered a critical testing system for detecting issues like bird flu in the milk, and this has enhanced the pressure on the department to sweep the staff from the food safety authority.
The program is not closed for all the testing, but only for the “Grade A” raw milk. This was the key program that was working for the accuracy and consistency of the safety labs around the country. Not only this, the FDA is working to cut off the $40 billion budget, and this is stressing the whole food safety infrastructure that has been working for years nationwide.

These tests ensure that every drop of milk coming to the public is safe.
