On Monday, April 28, 2025, Amazon launched its first 27 satellites for its Kuiper broadband internet from Florida. The people around the world were waiting for this long-delayed deployment in space, as the mission of this project is to rival Elon Musk’s Starlink internet.

The project involves sending a total of 3,236, but this time, the company has sent only 27 of them into low Earth orbits, and the name of this project is Kuiper. In 2019, Amazon announced this project with a budget of $10 billion, aiming to present the internet to businesses, customers, and government organizations to compete with the currently used Starlink internet.

Amazon Launches Project Kuiper Satellites Designed to Compete with Elon Musk’s SpaceX

Amazon has launched the biggest satellite internet project in Earth’s low orbits, aiming to blanket the planet with internet connectivity and to compete with the tech giants in the internet race.

With the help of United Launch Alliance, Amazon sent its first 27 satellites through the Atlas V rocket launched at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Before this, the plan was to launch the same project on April 9 of this year, but the bad weather conditions and other factors changed the minds of the experts, and they chose 7 PM on April 28.

Starlink is Elon Musk’s company, working at the moment to provide internet access to at least 4.6 million customers and targeting other regions to enhance these numbers. Musk is a genius working to transform the world with its technical advancements.

Not just Starlink, but Musk has multiple other projects utilizing the advanced technologies in a way that no one has used till now. He is the true user of artificial intelligence and is utilizing it for the advancement of every sector.

Just like Elon, Weborik Hub understands the importance of AI and is presenting the services to integrate the intelligent features into the web solution and get more efficiency and revenue from the same resources or even less than that.

Competing with Elon is a big mission requiring a lot of effort and smart work. The experts are questioning if it’s too late to start a new project against the one that is currently working great around the world. On this, Craig Moffett, the senior managing director at the research firm MoffettNathanson, says:

Kuiper is going to have a long way to go to catch up to be able to serve a significant part of the market. It looks like there is a very, very high probability that this will turn out to be too late for it to ever come close to being an attractive investment.

Initially, Amazon’s Kuiper is going to work with a constellation of 3200 satellites. The plan is to orbit all these satellites 280 miles (450 kilometers) from the Earth. On the other hand, Starlink’s satellites work at a 340-mile (550-kilometer) altitude that is slightly higher than the first case.

Both companies have planned to work in the Earth’s lower orbit, which is different from other communication projects working at a comparatively farther distance from this. At that altitude, the data took more time to reach the customer as compared to Starlink and Kuiper.

The constellation of SpaceX already has customers from homes, businesses, remote areas, organizations, airplanes, RVs, astronauts, and others. Hence, Amazon is going to face the difficulty of maintaining the project and then grabbing the attention.

While launching something to compete with the currently strong business, the project has to be innovative, impressive, and better in every aspect. Yet, Amazon has planned well, and it will take some years to show the tough competition to Elon Musk’s internet.
