Alexander Wang is the founder and CEO of the Scale AI company, and he was discussing with the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) where he highlighted the points of the company’s military contract.
During this, he defended the terms and conditions in the military contract and openly said that AI is a powerful tool against military safety, but the company will never apologize for its contract with the US military.
The current era is all about AI dominance, and the technology’s relationship with the military has always remained complex. Nowadays, AI is the driving power behind any country’s military and technical superiority.
About Scale AI Company
Founded in 2016, Scale AI is a startup founded by Alexandr Wang and Lucy Guo with a mission for the AI development and its applications empowerment. It is a data annotation company that supplies the labeled data to train the AI models.
Specializing in helping businesses with AI power, the company has also worked for government organizations to curate the AI data for AI models with a focus on computer vision, machine learning, and other AI sectors like natural language processing.
The company got its start at the perfect time, and soon, it became a significant player in the AI data processing and labeling industry and now has a value of almost $13.8 billion.
Mr. Wang’s startup is working with the world’s biggest tech giants like Meta, OpenAI, and Microsoft and has contracts with the US military.
Why is Scale AI Facing Criticism?
The critical relationship between the latest technologies and the military is always connected, and AI is the driving force behind any country’s military empowerment. Other technical companies face criticism while getting aid from the military by offering them their services.
On the other hand, Mr. Wang, the youngest self-made billionaire, declared in 2022 and is just 25 but is working great in AI. He says he does not have any guilt about having the contract with the US military. During the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) function in Washington, he said,
We’re at the brink of this incredibly powerful new technology, and the applications for national security are obvious. It’s going to be imperative for the US to stay ahead.
He grew up in New Mexico, and during a project he was working on on the topic of World War 2, he came to know that AI power is going to lead the world, and he should work on it. He believes in the moral imperative of the AI power towards the military, and while talking about national security, he said:
At that moment, it was clear to me that the US would need to have the highest quality human capital and the best companies focused on this problem
To some extent, we believe that he is right because AI power is revolutionizing the way we work. Being the AI expert at Weborik Hub, we present the remarkable services to integrate AI features into web solutions and transform the way websites and apps work.
Mr. Wang admits that he has made some wrong decisions that have made changes in the company’s working, and some of the employees resigned because they had the fear of being the target of the military, but he is working on the policies and considering it a moral duty to serve the nation with the ultimate power of artificial intelligence.
